Wow - this is most excellent! A well-deserved "Featured Shot" indeed! The square composition really lays a great foundation for the sequence of ordered rectangles. The right-pointing arrow keeps the composition moving, creating an interesting dynam…

Fantastic work - great use of curves & textures here, and color to set the mood.

Nice contrast of textures!

Beautiful capture!

The app is ok, but for me it won't replace photogene and camerabag or shakeitphoto. Concerning the whole project, it looks more like a promotional project for the author than a real desire of building a community. And don't forget to buy his book if…

Yeah, a gorgeous shot! A well-balanced composition with some dynamic to it. Nice work!

So is this what happens when Peter Max gets ahold of some Coke cans???

Yeah, the editing portion of the app itself is a little weak. Its strongest feature is the ability to delete and/or re-order the applied filters as you've mentioned. It's not meant to be a feature-rich editor, really, though, and for the point of wh…

I like this app, it has a nice interface and is very easy to use, wich is a godsend for a novice like me, thunmbs up.

I've been playing around with the app some today and so far I have to admit I'm disappointed. As much as I love Chase Jarvis and his work, I am not enamored with the app. I'll keep playing though. I like that you can do multiple filters and undo any…

Interesting project. Haven't had the time to test the app yet (I'm currently in a country where my Internet connection is very slow and my iPhone almost useless).

Profile Information

About me:
I studied photography a few years back in the film days - digital back then meant scanners or expensive cameras that even my school had no access to -- but most of my training was technical rather than artistic. Having given up serious photography for about 15 years, I re-familiarized myself with an SLR back in 2005 and bought my first dSLR (Nikon D1H) in early 2006. That re-ignited the passion and I've been fostering my growth as a photographer since then. While it's not feasible for me, I'd LOVE to go to art school. I'm a huge fan of Stieglitz, Weston (Ed moreso than Brett, really), Minor White, Ansel (who isn't), Strand, and several others, and take inspiration from all of them. I'm especially drawn to the concept of "Equivalence" as discussed by Stieglitz, progressed by Weston, and furthered studied through White. Having a bit of a film background, I'm thankful for the experience I did get both in the color and black & white darkrooms. I still am not quite satisfied with a photograph until it looks good in print. Certainly some photos look better with light coming from behind them (i.e. a slide or a digital image on a nice computer screen), but I'm still drawn to a good photo framed and matted. Hence, unlike Ken Rockwell, I actually prefer to spend time in the digital "darkroom" processing images. After all - Ansel Adams did a whole bunch of post-processing using the technology he had at his disposal back in the day ("The negative is the score, the print is the performance").

In a lot of ways I regret not pursuing photography as more than a side passion - I'm a state government computer geek by day, which pays the bills a lot more than photography does - but it frees me to be particular about the projects I assign myself and assume from others. I earn enough to pay for most of my gear (shooting weddings and selling prints) and I'm fine with that.

I've had a smart phone since pretty much when they were available, but none that I owned came close to the power and features of the iPhone. So in June of 2009, I bit the bullet and switched from Sprint to AT&T (after MUCH reluctance) and got one.

After seeing the stuff Chase Jarvis was doing with his iPhone, I was completely blown away by its photographic power. While it's not as flexible as an SLR, or even an advanced point-and-shoot like the "PannyLeica" LX-1 I carry on my belt, the fact that you can directly edit and upload photos from the phone has really drawn me in and given me inspiration to use it more as a legitimate photographic tool. The 3GS camera upgrade certainly helps, and I've made prints from my iPhone images that people are stunned to believe came from that camera. It's a legitimate all-in-one photography device, especially with the awesome apps available.

I bought the 3GS 32 Gig the day it came out and noticed right away that the photos I initially took had a big blotch in the top-right corner. A few phone calls and e-mails to Apple later, even though there were none in stock at any store within 500 miles from me, they got me a replacement right away. Now that I've played with some of the photo apps, I'm more than thrilled to use my iPhone to express my inner budding artist...
